Cetacean Agitprop
A growing archive of creative confronting what the industry costs — built to be shared, argued with, and used. Click any piece to open it full size in a new tab.
"Climate change threatens civilization" asks people to hold two abstractions in their head at once and feel something about the relationship between them. That's a cognitive task, not an emotional one, and for most people it doesn't land.
"Fossil fuel executives are killing whales" gives you a villain, a victim, and a causal arrow — the basic grammar of every story humans have ever cared about. This is sometimes called the identifiable victim effect: concrete, personified harm moves people more than statistics ever do.
This site borrows the phrase "euthanise the fossil fuel industry" from Christian Parenti, author and journalist, who has argued for a managed wind-down of fossil fuel infrastructure before climate feedback loops become irreversible. Watch the interview below.
The word matters. It reframes shutting the industry down as mercy — a deliberate contrast to the industry's own conduct, which this site argues shows none.
Start where it costs you nothing but a share. Escalate from there, if you're ready to.
Every piece in the gallery is built to be shared. Post it, repost it, put it wherever the people who need to see it will see it.
Anger and grief are a starting point, not a destination. If you're ready to go further — to find a sustained, personal role in the environmental movement rather than a single reaction to a single ad — Vita Sapien can help you find your Vitamission.
Cetacean Agitprop is an initiative of environmental scientist Guy Lane who worked for two years in the oil industry and went on to study environmental science. Guy's mission is to support the global movement to euthanise the fossil fuel industry before it mercilessly kills us all.
Guy Lane is an author of fiction and non-fiction with sustainability themes. See his website: guylane.com
The fossil fuel industry has taken over the primary international forum to discuss climate change. At COP-28, the president was an oilman. It is time to euthanise this industry before it mercilessly kills the whale and the humans.
